EXCLUSIVE: Anurag Kashyap and Taapsee Pannu’s Dobaaraa (2:12) is 2:12 hours long; even the trailer’s runtime is 2:12 minutes
Anurag Kashyap has been missing in action for some time now. Though he was seen as an actor and producer, AK vs AK (2020), his last film as a director, Choked (2020), had been released more than two years ago. Now, the filmmaker is back with an unusual thriller, Dobaaraa. It has made waves at several international film festivals and is all set to release in cinemas on August 19.
Bollywood Hungama has learnt a very interesting trivia about this film, which stars Taapsee Pannu, Rahul Bhat and Pavail Gulati. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “If you read the title of the film, you’d assume that it means ‘again’, which is what Dobaaraa means. However, here, Dobaaraa translates to ‘Do’ (2) and ‘Baaraa’ (12), that is, 2:12. These numbers play a significant role in the film’s premise.”
The source further added, “Moreover, the film’s runtime is also 2:12, that is, 2 hours and 12 minutes. That’s not all. The film’s trailer, which will be released today, also has a runtime of 2:12, that is, 2 minutes and 12 seconds.”
So was this planned or did it happen by chance? The source revealed, “The makers planned it. They felt that it would be interesting if they can achieve this feat. At the same time, they were clear that they would not fasten or slow down the narrative and thus hamper the film in order to get the desired length. Thankfully for them, things fell in place and they were able to get the run time of 2:12 for both the film and the theatrical trailer.”
Dobaaraa is not the only film to achieve this feat. 4 years ago the makers of 102 Not Out (2018), starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, successfully managed to have a final cut with the duration of 102 minutes, that is, 1 hour and 42 minutes.
Dobaaraa is co-produced by Ekta Kapoor and it marks the launch of her new vertical, Cult. The veteran producer plans to make several out-of-the-box entertainers under this banner. The trailer of the film will be attached with Ek Villain Returns, which will hit cinemas this Friday, July 29.
