Nargis Dutt’s daughter Namrata Dutt recalls the time they had to move to the USA for her mother’s treatment
Nargis, the legendary actor, died on May 3, 1981, after a valiant battle with cancer. Nargis and Sunil were always there for one another, even when things were bad. Their eldest daughter Namrata wrote a touching tribute to her parents.
Namrata Dutt wrote an essay for Pinkvilla about her family's forced relocation to the United States during Nargis' treatment. "Dad was with her every day, from dawn to dusk. He'd look after her and keep her tidy. We would also alternate caring for her as a group. My father never revealed what was going on in his life, despite the fact that I'm sure he cried in private,” Namrata said.
Nargis met Sunil Dutt on the set of Mother India, where he played Nargis' on-screen son.Their lives changed after Sunil heroically saved Nargis from a fire on the sets of the film. The incident brought them closer together.

According to Namrata, Nargis was content with her marriage after she retired from performing. She had three children in addition to her son Sanjay and daughter Priya. The news that Nargis had cancer, on the other hand, tipped the scales dramatically. Namrata, his daughter, said her father would "watch her with binoculars (from their rented apartment), the opposite side being Mom's (hospital) room."
"At the time, I was about sixteen years old." Priya was ten years old. We had no idea what to do in the kitchen at first. As a result, we'd call Mom from her room on her landline and ask her how to make simple things for my father. This is how Priya and I were introduced to Indian cuisine "She continued.
Nargis went into a coma after her pancreas was removed. "Coma patients are unable to respond, but they appear to be aware of everything around them. We would read her the news and talk to her about it as if she were there in person to keep her up to date on what was going on in Bombay." The hospital staff nicknamed Nargis "Miracle Lady" after she awoke from unconsciousness and walked with a walker, according to Namrata.
Nargis sobbed in front of the mirror that day. On one of those days, they had planned to take her shopping. "As she was getting dressed, she caught sight of herself in the mirror for the first time in months. Her skin had darkened as a result of the chemotherapy. She'd shaved off her entire head of hair. When she realized what she had seen, she burst into tears. " When Nargis Dutt returned to India following her cancer diagnosis, she expressed her desire to see one of her daughters marry, according to Namrata. By the time I'm done raising them, at least one of my children should have found a stable home."
Nargis Dutt died as the result of urinary infection on May 3, 1981. The actor developed a fear of fire after an incident on the set of Mother India. That is why Nargis was laid to rest in her wedding gown, as she had requested.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt was preparing to make his feature film debut in Sanju. In honor of Nargis, a chair was left empty between Sanjay Dutt and Sunil Dutt on May 7, 1981.
Priya Dutt paid her respects to the late actress Nargis in a touching Instagram tribute. Priya's life and career are marked by "her presence," she writes. Even though my mother died when I was 14 years old in 1981, she was never far from my side. Even though I miss her physical presence, as you get older, you realize that life is about more than just the body and develop the ability to communicate with your spirit. The Nargis Dutt Foundation allows me to live my parents' (my mother and father's) dreams and enjoy every moment of it. Her spirit lives on in my life. The Nargis Dutt Foundation was founded 41 years after my mother's death and the emergence of my mother's legacy. #love.”
